Schiff MegaRed Joint Care Review

Megared Joint Care is a supplement rich in omega-3 fatty acids, hyaluronic acid, and astaxanthin that seeks to improve joint function and comfort. It claims to provide better effects than the standard joint health ingredients glucosamine and chondroitin. The manufacturer claims that this product works quickly, providing relief in just seven days. Continue reading our review for Megared Joint Care to find out more information about this product.

Ingredients

The active Ingredients include:

  • Krill Oil (source of omega-3 fatty acids)
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Astaxanthin

The other Ingredients include:

  • Gelatin
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Glycerin
  • Water
  • Yellow Beeswax
  • Red 40
  • Ethyl Vanillin
  • Titanium Dioxide
  • Caramel (color)
  • Blue 1
  • Mixed Tocopherols
  • Rosemary Extract

Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation throughout the body including the joints.  There is some evidence that they positively impact cardiovascular health.  Hyaluronic acid mimics the lubricative cushioning that naturally occurs in joints.  Astaxanthin is an antioxidant that works to neutralize free radicals and ease damage.  It should be noted that krill, the source of the omega-3s, are from crustaceans, making this product potentially dangerous for anyone with a shellfish allergy.

The other ingredients include colorants and flavorings.  Many of the coloring agents (Red 40, Blue 1, Titanium Dioxide and Caramel) are artificially derived.  There is some evidence that artificial dyes such as Blue 1 and Red 40 are harmful or even dangerous.  Artificial colorants have been associated with neurological problems such as headaches, hyperactivity, sleep disruption and anxiety.

The flavorings (Glycerin, Ethyl Vanillin) may also be artificial – some glycerin is obtained from plant sources. These are presumably added to mask the fishy taste and odor of the krill. These may not be as potentially problematic as the dyes, but many consider artificial flavorings best avoided.

This product also does not list the quantities of the main ingredients. And based on one of the questions asked on the manufacturer’s website, this information is not provided on the label of the product either.

Dosage

It is recommended to take one softgel per day.  While convenient, this dosage seems low when compared to similar products on the market.  The manufacturer provided no information as to whether or not it should be taken with food.

Price

Megared Joint Care costs $24.99 for a bottle of 30 softgels from the manufacturer’s website. There do not appear to be any special discounts for bulk purchases.

Guarantee

The manufacturer offers a 30-day money back guarantee with this product. You will be able to receive a refund, less handling charges, and a %15 stocking fee. However, the actual details to be eligible for a refund are not explained on the website.

Megared Joint Care – Conclusion

There are some things to like about Megared Joint Care.  It is convenient and easy to take and contains ingredients strongly linked with improved joint comfort and function.  There are, however, several concerns including the use of artificial dyes and flavorings.  In spite of the manufacturer’s claims, many reviewers complained about a persistent “fishy taste” in the mouth.

The use of krill as the omega-3 source is also troubling.  Evidence indicates that krill supplements function as a blood thinner, making this product potentially dangerous for those on anticoagulants or with bleeding disorders.  Also, as stated above, krill are marine animals and their use in this product may endanger individuals with shellfish allergies.
